Intergovernmental Personnel Act Program Officer

Dr. Bob Swap is currently serving as a rotating IPA (Intergovernmental Personnel Act) program officer with the Radiation Sciences Program of the Earth Sciences Division of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters where he supports Atmospheric Composition Focus Area programs. He has more than two decades experience of conducting environmental research and experiential education in southern Africa, with his first African research in Etosha National Park. As a Research Professor at the University of Virginia he served as the U.S. Principal Investigator of the Southern Africa Regional Science initiative (SAFARI-2000) and leveraged SAFARI-2000 to create a regional knowledge network that focuses on resilient trans-boundary management of the coupled human-natural environment of southern/eastern Africa. The network is known as the Eastern/Southern Africa Virginia Networks and Associations (ESAVANA). He has served as a Fulbright Senior Specialist at Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique and also has an appointment as an Extraordinary Professor with the Environmental Sciences and Management, at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University, South Africa. He is currently serving as the Program Scientist for the EVS-2 ORACLES program
