Summary: According to folklore, October's full moon is called the "Blood Moon." That's appropriate. On Oct. 27th and 28th, 2004, the full Moon turned blood red when it passed through Earth's shadow. [full story]

Totality above LA Harbor. We were fortunate to see the moon after a day of heavy rains, even if clouds did obscure the last half of totality. Taken at 255 UT on the 28th (755PM PDT) with A Canon Powershot digital camera, ISO 400, 2 seconds exposure. This was my third lunar eclipse observation in the last two years.

My first chance at photographing a total lunar eclipse was almost ruined by thick cirrus clouds that rolled in during most of totality. However, I was able to get this sequence of shots after the clouds cleared. Images were then composited with Photoshop. Nikon Coolpix 995, f5.6, 1/500 to 1/15 exposures.

Taken with a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and Meade LX90 (8') via Scopetronix adapter and wide field eyepiece. We missed the second half of the eclipse due to clouds.

Individual images were taken with an Olympus D450Z digital camera, afocal to a short tube refractor with a 13.8mm eyepiece. The refractor was mounted on top of a Meade LX90 in equatorial mode. An excellent night in New York for the eclipse.
