Plasmaspheric Troughs:  IMAGE EUV Global Observations
and Forward Plasmaspheric Modeling

Since the onset of operation, the IMAGE Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) imager has observed several plasmaspheric density troughs in association with a range of geomagnetic activity levels. Analysis of these density trough features using EUV observations and simulated EUV images produced by forward plasmaspheric modeling subjected to an artificially created density depletion will be presented in order to develop an understanding of the possible origins of these features. These global observations and analyses form the basis for discussion of the possible global mechanism[s] responsible for the development of these density trough features.
