by

Michael Briggs
16 November 2001

The Aero-Ektar lenses were designed and produced by Kodak for the US WWII effort for the purpose of night time aerial reconnaissance photography using flash-bomb illumination. To succeed in this demanding mission, the Aero-Ektars incorporated significant advances in lens design and optical technology. This talk will combine knowledge from science, technology, general history and technology history to understand these lenses, and particularly to explain why the Aero-Ektars are radioactive.
