Upon completion of his doctoral research, Dr. Elsner was a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University
from 1976-78. From 1978-80 Dr. Elsner was a National Research Council (NRC) Associate at NASA/Marshall
Space Flight Center under the advisement of Dr. Martin Weisskopf. Dr. Elsner was hired as a civil servant
in the X-Ray Astronomy Group in 1980, where he has since served with distinction.
While with the X-Ray Astronomy Group, Dr. Elsner's previous research interests have included: timing
studies of accreting neutron stars in binaries; X-ray polarimetry; and development of Chandra X-Ray
optics. Dr. Elsner's current research interests include: X-ray emission from Jupiter, its satellites
and the Io plasma torus; X-ray optics from 0.1 to 100 keV; and X-ray binaries.
