Kepler-186f
Where the grass is always redder
This planet, slightly larger than Earth, orbits a red dwarf star. Scientists say that other planets could reflect light in very different colors than Earth. If Kepler-186f has any vegetation, it could be red, purple, or even black!
Kepler-186f, discovered in 2014, was the first near Earth-size planet discovered in the habitable zone of another star. That means the planet is at the right distance from its star where liquid water could pool on its surface.
For plant life to exist, the planet would need an atmosphere, which we assume here.
Abstract portrayal of the vegetation reflects the idea of life on any exoplanet being purely abstract – for now.
Kepler-186f has four smaller planet companions, though they orbit much closer to the star.
The white picket fence is a fun juxtaposition on a planet 580 light-years away. It led to the tagline, where the grass is always redder on the other side, which was said as a joke, but everyone loved it!
The foreground was purposely made as dark as possible to bring the eye to the redness of the grass with the contrast of the white fence.
