Tsunami Propagation

Observe how a tsunami, triggered by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake in Japan in 2011, propagates and affects regions all across the Pacific in this computer simulation from NOAA/NWS/Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. The computer model is based on real-time earthquake data and includes the estimated arrival times and heights of the waves as the tsunami hits land. This resource enables students to observe the potential range of time and spatial scales associated with a tsunami. (spanish available)
