Whirlpool Galaxy
This galaxy appears as a grand spiral sweeping through space. The spiral structure comprises lanes of stars and gas laced with dust. The image of the Whirlpool Galaxy, taken in January 2005 with the Advanced Camera for Surveys on the Hubble Space Telescope, showcases the curving spiral arms where young stars reside and the bright central core where older stars burn. The galaxy is nicknamed the Whirlpool because of its swirling structure
