Ask SME: Artist and Astromaterials 3D Science Principal Investigator Erika Blumenfeld
In this close-up video, Erika Blumenfeld, Artist and Astromaterials 3D Science Principal Investigator, shares her "obsession with the stories that connect us to the cosmos." Her curiosity about the stories rocks can tell inspired her to explore dynamic ways to 3D model and make NASA's astromaterials collection more accessible to everyone. The Astromaterials 3D library, currently focusing on Moon rocks and Antarctic Meteorites, is created with three primary technologies: High-Resolution Precision Photography (HRPP), Micro X-Ray Computed Tomography (XCT) and Structure-From-Motion Photogrammetry (SFM). The result provides research-grade interior and exterior 3D sample reconstructions for all.
