Jan. 13, 2019 - Jan. 29, 2019
The earlier image shows the Central Plateau of the Australian state of Tasmania, three days before the Tasmania Fire Service announced that lightning strikes had ignited dozens of fires across the island state. The later image shows the spread of the Great Pine Tier fire 13 days after the announcement. In these false-color images, active fire appears bright pink, producing bluish smoke. Scars of burned areas appear dark red to brownish. As of Feb. 7, the fire had consumed nearly 136,000 acres. See also Tasmanian fire, Australia. Images taken by Landsat 8.
