Astronauts James H. Newman and Michael J. Massimino EVA
Astronaut Michael J. Massimino, mission specialist, anchored on the end of the Space Shuttle Columbia's Remote Manipulator System (RMS) robotic arm, works in tandem with astronaut James H. Newman, mission specialist, during this second session of extravehicular activity (EVA) on STS-109. Newman and Massimino installed the second of the Hubble Space Telescope's new solar arrays with its accompanying Diode Box Assembly, and replaced Reaction Wheel Assembly-1. Hubble, illuminated by the sunrise, is seen in stark contrast to the blackness of space and the thin line of Earth’s atmosphere in the background.
