Messier 78: Amateur Image vs. Hubble Image

Three images of Messier 78 (M78), a reflection nebula in the constellation Orion. The left image was taken with an 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope using a 0.63x focal reducer and a DSLR Camera. The center image was taken with the European Southern Observatory’s VISTA (Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy), a 4-m class specialized wide field survey telescope for the southern hemisphere. The right image was taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.
