Hubble Operation Transitions to New Mode
Chief System Engineer for Flight Larry Dunham points at Hubble Space Telescope data as Systems Manager Morgan Van Arsdall and systems engineer Joe Stock look on. The data flowing from the telescope confirms that Hubble has switched modes as commanded and is operating as expected. The telescope had just been transitioned to a new way of using its gyroscopes to keep the spacecraft steady to compensate for a gyroscope that was not behaving normally. Gyroscope performance can deteriorate over time, so Hubble has created plans to compensate for issues they may develop.
