GLOBE Observer 2021 Community Trees Challenge
Between April 15 and May 15, GLOBE Observer hosted the 2021 Community Trees Challenge: Science is Better Together. Participants were invited to measure trees with the GLOBE Observer app or to complete related activities to observe trees in other ways, learn about trees, create tree art, or engage others in talking about trees. GLOBE volunteers took 2,441 tree height observations from 1,733 global locations in 41 countries. This makes up just over 7% of the total tree height observations from just over 11% of the global locations since the release of the NASA GLOBE Observer Trees tool on March 26, 2019. Since the release of the trees tool, there have been 34,915 tree height observations from 15,014 global locations. Trees challenge communication efforts reached 2,891,460 people through social media (largely through a Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat story on the NASA account and a Reddit AMA event) with 10,338 page views on the GLOBE Observer website challenge page. GLOBE Observer is funded under the NASA Earth Science Education Collaborative, https://strategies.org/products/nasa-earth-science-education-collaborative.
