Strategies for Working with Multilingual Learners


NASA Langley’s My NASA Data Teacher Intern, Maria Royle, presented “Strategies for Working with Multilingual Learners” to 17 members of the GLOBE Mission Earth community and friends on July 27, 2021. Maria is a master teacher bringing over 17 years of experience to this internship role; she currently teaches science at R.B. Stall High School in Charleston, SC which serves the largest Multilingual Learner (MLL) student population in the state. In this session, Maria discussed her experience as a Science Teacher to MLL students, highlighted language acquisition stages (based on WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework), and provided design considerations for product developers and teachers. Maria also showcased her iteration of the My NASA Data’s Data Literacy Cube Guide that will be published on the website soon.
