My NASA Data Extends GLOBE Teaching and Learning for Providence, RI Teachers

Elizabeth Joyner, Angela Rizzi, and Maria Royle from NASA Langley, presented My NASA Data to teachers from Providence, RI and Boston, MA on July 23 through the GLOBE Mission Earth partnership with Boston University. The 3-hour professional development session showcased data-rich lessons and activities that complement teachers' citizen science classroom activities with the GLOBE Program. The 17 teachers accessed MERRA-2 air temperature data for their school location using My NASA Data's Earth System Data Explorer and modeled strategies for scaffolding data instruction for K12 students.

“Being able to customize the [satellite] map of our school community in Providence helps students to understand how data is all around them.” -Richard, 2nd grade teacher
