Cassini Significant Event Report

For Week Ending 04/16/99

Spacecraft Status:

The most recent spacecraft status is from the DSN tracking pass on
Thursday, 04/15, over the Canberra tracking station. The Cassini
spacecraft is in an excellent state of health and is operating normally. The speed of the spacecraft can be viewed on the "Where is Cassini Now?" web page (http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/operations/present-position.cfm)

On Friday, 04/09,the Cassini spacecraft down-link was successfully used by
TMOD/DSN in support of an array test with DSS 15/25. An array gain >of
2.65 +/- 0.59 dB was measured, compared to 2.47 dB predicted. Also on
Friday a playback was performed of recorded engineering data.

On Tuesday, 04/13, the Solid State Recorder (SSR-B) record and playback
pointers were reset.

On Wednesday, 04/14, Flight Software Partition Maintenance was performed.

On Thursday, 04/15, a playback was performed of recorded engineering data.

Upcoming events:

Activities scheduled for the week of 04/16 - 04/22 include a playback of
recorded engineering data on 04/16, Part 1 of the AACS Default IVP Vector
update on 04/19, an SSR Pointer Reset on 04/20, and Part 2 of the AACS
Default IVP Vector update on 04/21.

On Wednesday, 04/07, CDA reported the first dust impact measurement in the
Cosmic Dust Analyzer since the instrument was turned on on 3/24.

Additional information about Cassini-Huygens is online at http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov.

Cassini will begin orbiting Saturn on July 1, 2004, and release its piggybacked Huygens probe about six months later for descent through the thick atmosphere of the moon Titan. Cassini-Huygens is a cooperative mission of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Office of Space Science, Washington, D.C.
