Aaron Piña

Dr. Aaron J. Piña is a Deputy Program Scientist at NASA Headquarters in the Earth Science Division where he supports the Weather and Atmospheric Dynamics Focus Area in weather research, data, and technology. Aaron’s portfolio includes NASA weather strategy implementation, program management support, interagency/international collaborations, and field campaign coordination and planning.

Prior to joining NASA Headquarters, Aaron worked as a scientist for an atmospheric science and software development start-up company in Louisville, Colorado. There, he focused on atmospheric transport and dispersion applications that are of interest to the U.S. Departments of Defense and Energy.

Aaron’s professional interests include connecting science with policy, high performance computing, numerical weather prediction, environmental justice, weather over complex terrain, atmospheric transport and dispersion, data management and accessibility, and diversity and inclusion.

Aaron earned his B.S. degree in Meteorology from Texas A&M University, his M.S. in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University, and his Ph.D. in Ecology from Colorado State University. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the American Geophysical Union, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
