Mike Davis has worked on the Webb Telescope project since 2003. After 21 years as Deputy Mission Systems Engineer and Observatory Systems Engineer, Mike has recently assumed the duties of JWST Operations Project Manager.
In his years on Webb, Mike supported all system engineering efforts including requirements formulation and management, systems design and integration, and systems validation and verification. Mike has also supported Webb Mission Operations from Launch through Commissioning, including current Mission Operations. Prior to his involvement on Webb, Davis was an employee of Lockheed Martin for 21 years, 17 of which were spent in Sunnyvale, California. At Lockheed Martin, Mike worked on early phases of the AXAF/Chandra program, NPOESS studies where he was the responsible engineer for the microwave sensor system suite, and the DMSP Program where he was responsible for the Space Segment Integration effort. Moving to Maryland in 1999, Davis served as Verification Lead and Systems Engineer for the Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3 Science Instrument and provided on-console support at NASA JSC for HST Servicing Mission 3B.
Mike received his Bachelors of Science Degree from Villanova University in 1982. He is an avid astronomer and concert-goer and loves to spend time at home with his wife and two Maine Coon cats while supporting Webb Outreach activities.
