ICONS Students 2024
Forty undergraduate students participated in the first year of NASA’s Europa ICONS (Inspiring Clipper: Opportunities for Next-generation Scientists) internship program, which matches U.S. undergraduate STEM majors with mentors from the Europa Clipper mission to conduct original science research on topics related to the mission.
The Europa Clipper mission’s three main science objectives are to determine the thickness of the moon’s icy shell and its surface interactions with the ocean below, to investigate its composition, and to characterize its geology. The mission’s detailed exploration of Europa will help scientists better understand the astrobiological potential for habitable worlds beyond our planet.

ICONS Internships
Inspiring Clipper: Opportunities for Next-generation Scientists (ICONS) internships will bring members of the Europa Clipper science team together with undergraduate students for a 10-week internship that gives students the opportunity to conduct original scientific research.
