Total Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026

A globe, centered on the North Atlantic, shows part of the Western Hemisphere including parts of North and South America, Europe, and Africa. A curved, red band runs from northern Russia, close to the North Pole, over parts of Greenland and Iceland, across the North Atlantic, and across parts of Spain. Yellow ovals appear periodically within the red band. A grid of green lines, which run roughly north to south, and yellow lines, which run roughly west to east, covers much of the rest of the hemisphere. The green lines have times on them and the yellow lines have percentages. The left, top, and right edges of the grid are bordered by a large, orange, figure-eight loop with a blue line running through the center of it.

This artist’s concept visualizes a super-Neptune world orbiting a low-mass star near the center of our Milky Way galaxy. Scientists recently discovered such a system that may break the current record for fastest exoplanet system, traveling at least 1.2 million miles per hour, or 540 kilometers per second.
