Helping Educators Use My NASA Data

Twenty four international educators recently joined NASA Langley Research Center’s Elizabeth Joyner to learn about using real NASA data in Earth Science K12 formal learning environments. My NASA Data (https://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/) has educational tools and resources for students from grades 3-12. Joyner underscored how these resources may be used to scaffold data analysis and interpretation for elementary, middle, and high school levels in the forms of quick engagements with NASA data, as well as longer, more sustained lessons focused on data analysis and interpretation. She also featured the opportunities for teachers and students to select from a variety of Earth System variables to find data for a particular location and time range of their choice. The Earth System Data Explorer may serve as an integral asset to many Earth or Environmental Science student research projects.

This learning session was hosted on February 15th, 2022 by Dr. Sara Torres with the NASA STEM Educator Professional Development Collaborative (EPDC) at Ames Research Center. Through this effort, My NASA Data also supports NASA’s NSPACE and SPARX programs. This activity demonstrates the value of One NASA and the enterprise system of working together to support the educators inspiring our next generation of explorers.
