Increasing Minnesota Teachers’ Access to NASA Earth Data for Place-based Learning
On August 6, 2021, NASA Langley's Elizabeth Joyner presented at the Minnesota Space Grant's "NASA-in-the-Classroom" Educator Workshop to 11 educators from across the state. Teachers learned about Langley's My NASA Data instructional resources, as well as how to access NASA Earth data via the Earth System Data Explorer to investigate a local phenomenon - the Bomb Cyclone event back in April 2019. Teachers also practiced data analysis activities from My NASA Data to explore snow and ice data for central Minnesota.
“After our break we talked more about My NASA Data and the teachers were impressed with the amount of material available. Unfortunately, we had only one hour slot. The teachers mentioned that they would like to have a whole workshop dedicated to the subject. Some teachers mentioned that Minnesota is changing/updating the Earth Science curriculum and that they could benefit from it.” -Dr. Thelma S. Berquó, Concordia College
