Girl Scouts Earn New Space Badges at Observe the Moon Night

  • The Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) team at NASA's Johnson Space Center, collaborating with the Lunar and Planetary Science Institute, brought science alive for 150 Girl Scouts and parents on October 5, 2019 at International Observe the Moon Night.
  • The event enabled 100 Girl Scouts from the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council area to earn newly released Girl Scout badges developed by the Reach for the Stars Girl Scout Science Activation Team & Girl Scouts USA.
  • ARES staff created activity booklets to ensure the Girl Scouts completed activities to earn the badges.
  • Participants also observed the Moon and objects in the night sky through telescopes.
  • Content from other SciAct Teams was highlighted as part of the activities.
