The MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Terra satellite captured this true-color image of Typhoon Songda on September 6, 2004 at 2:35 UTC. At the time this image was taken Songda was located approximately 528 km (328 miles) south-southeast of Sasebo, Japan and was moving towards the north-northwest at 13 km/hr (8 mph). Maximum sustained winds were near 185 km/hr (115 mph) with gusts to 232 km/hr (144 mph).
