Caldwell 57: Amateur Image vs. Hubble Image

Caldwell 57 (C57) is a dwarf irregular galaxy located some two million light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius. It is also called Barnard’s galaxy after the American astronomer credited with first discovering it. The dark line in the Hubble image is a “chip gap”. It is an area between the detectors where no data was collected. The left image was taken with an 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope using a 0.63x focal reducer and a DSLR Camera. The right image was taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.
