NASA’s ASTRO CAMP® Community Partners Present to Mississippi Science Teachers
NASA’s ASTRO CAMP® Community Partners (ACCP) team presented a sneak peek of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in the 2023 Educators’ Facilitator’s Guide at the Mississippi Science Teachers Association conference in Biloxi, Mississippi on October 24th, 2022. The ACCP team presented to educators from locations throughout the state about using NASA’s ACCP hands-on science activities to help meet students’ learning goals in both formal and informal settings.
“The ACCP team is goal driven to increase availability for traditionally underserved and under-represented communities and to use diversified learning styles so that every student can learn,” said Mariah Lott, NASA’s ACCP project lead. “We create relationships and provide a connection to empower educators of all types with NASA’s resources. We work with formal educators like we’re doing here and informal educators in afterschool programs, Boys and Girls Clubs, libraries, YMCA’s, and other youth-serving organizations all year around.”
The NASA ACCP team provides a link between teachers in the classroom and NASA’s STEM Activities through real world cutting edge sciences.
“ASTRO CAMP is such a treasure for our school and our students,” said Marry Gray, conference attendant, Envisioneers Robotics coach, and Prentiss Highschool physics teacher. “You don’t know the treasure that NASA’s ACCP is for us.” Gray participates in NASA’s Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pathways (NESSP) challenges including, ROADS (Rover Observation And Drone Survey) on Mars, Asteroids, Icy Worlds, and currently Artemis, which was introduced to her and supported through ACCP.
