My NASA Data Featured at the 2021 New Mexico STEM Symposium: Cultivating STEM Education

The Math and Science Bureau of the New Mexico Public Education Department hosted the 2021 virtual NM STEM Symposium on July 13, 2021 where NASA Langley presented “Leveraging NASA Data to Explore Global and Regional Phenomena in the Earth System” to 14 teachers. In this session, Elizabeth Joyner and Maria Royle modeled how to customize and differentiate visualizations and NASA Earth science datasets to bolster place-based and developmentally-appropriate instruction. They also engaged teachers in data analysis activities using resources available from My NASA Data.

“As a math teacher, I really like how My NASA Data offers many resources that I can use in my Data Analysis class with 12th Grade math class next year. I can actually use real science data to teach them using data science concepts, as opposed to being limited to using business examples. This is important as we prepare them for upcoming jobs.” -Yolanda A., NM High School Teacher
