Grey Hautaluoma

Senior Communications Official

Grey Hautaluoma’s nearly 30-year career includes wide experience in government and nonprofit communications. He has been with NASA since 2004 and currently serves as team lead for Science communications. Previously at NASA, he has worked as a public affairs officer in the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate and the Space Operations Mission Directorate before they were consolidated into Human Exploration and Operations. He also served as the NASA Administrator’s speechwriter for several years.

Before NASA, Grey spent more than seven years working in the Smithsonian Institution’s development office, where he drafted fund raising proposals, donor publications and presentations for the Secretary and museum directors. He also served as the communications director for two members of the U.S. House of Representatives. He was the communications director for the League of Historic American Theatres, a national historic preservation nonprofit, and The Association of American Cultures, a service organization for ethnic and minority artists. He holds a B.A. degree in English from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the American University in Washington.
