The Prebiotic Chemistry and Early Earth Environments Consortium (PCE3) is a community of researchers striving to transform the origins of life community by breaking down language and ideological barriers and enhancing communication across the disciplinary divide between early earth geoscientists and prebiotic chemists.
The fundamental objective of PCE3 is to provide a network of communication and intellectual cooperation that fosters innovation across the community and gives rise to novel research avenues and encourages out-of-the-box thinking. Through proactive mentoring, outreach, and community-wide activities, PCE3 aims to increase the overall diversity within the research community, promote early career scientists, and develop avenues to fully integrate a broad spectrum of approaches and ideas into the research community. Members hope to cultivate a new paradigm across the community in which models for the emergence of a prebiotic pathway are rooted in realistic planetary conditions, and the dynamics and constraints of early Earth environments are fully integrated into origins hypotheses. Augmenting these efforts – beyond our planet, PCE3 aims to identify planetary conditions that can or cannot give rise to life’s chemistry, thus guiding future missions that target the discovery of habitable worlds.
