An ash plume from Shiveluch volcano cast a dark shadow on the snow-covered Kamchatka Peninsula. This natural-color image, collected on January 21, 2014, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer on the Terra satellite, shows Shiveluch, its plume, and the rugged landscape of far eastern Russia.
