An astronaut at the end of the shuttle's robotic arm works with a solar array.

Astronauts James H. Newman and Michael J. Massimino EVA

Anchored on the end of the Columbia's Remote Manipulator System (RMS) robotic arm, astronaut Michael J. Massimino, removes the old flexible solar array on the port side of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Astronauts Massimino and James H. Newman went on to replace the array with a new rigid one. A day earlier, two other astronauts accomplished the same task on the starboard side.
