Learn Math with NASA Science

Whether you’re an educator or an independent learner, the following will help you find math learning resources from NASA Science! These sites offer ready-to-use activities and resources to launch into learning that connects math with NASA’s out of this world science.

High school students build and launch model rockets during one of NASA's many education activities

Explore NASA Data

Generate an understanding of data literacy and fluency with these authentic NASA  datasets and data visualizations

Data Entry Points. NASA collects vast quantities of data about stars, planets and other objects, the Sun, our Earth, and even cells! This information is stored in a number of topical archives. Many offer tools and tutorials to help start a data exploration.

NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory Data in the Classroom. In this hands-on lab students observe sunspots and solar flares, create movies using real data, generate and test a hypothesis about solar activity, and collaborate to present their results. With solar maximum expected in 2025, now is a good time to monitor the Sun with data.

NASA's Science Visualization Studio provides visualizations, animations, and images to support student understanding of Earth and Space Science research activities at NASA and within the academic research community supported by NASA.

Heliophysics Big Year Math Webinars - Explore the mathematics in heliophysics with Dr. Sten Odenwald, creator of Space Math. This 14 month webinar series delivers real world math problems during the heliophysics big year.

Connect with Educators

Connect with a network of formal and informal educators to support your learning journey.

NASA PLACES. Place-Based Learning to Advance Connections, Education, and Stewardship (PLACES) supports middle and high school educators to engage students in data-rich Earth science learning through the integration of NASA data sets, images, classroom lessons, and other assets.

NASA CONNECTS. Connecting Our NASA Network of Educators for Collaborating Together in STEM (CONNECTS) allows members to register and have the opportunity to sign up for engagement events, view and chat with other members who are interested in similar fields, read exclusive NextGen STEM content, and access resources such as lesson plans and interactive media.
