NASA eClips™ Produces New Educational Videos About Lunar Rocks

The NASA eClips project, led by the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), aims to increase Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) literacy and inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists by providing effective web-based, standards-aligned, in-school and out-of-school learning and teaching resources through the lens of NASA.

In January and February 2024, the NASA eClips project team produced a series of four new videos for educators to engage their learners about lunar rocks. NIA’s Media Communications Group interviewed subject matter experts at NASA’s Johnson Space Center to create elementary and secondary-level video segments and two Ask SME (Subject Matter Expert) career connection videos. The four videos are now available on the NASA eClips website.

Our World “The Stories Moon Rocks Tell” – Researchers are using new instruments and modern technology to study and analyze six preserved core samples brought back from the Moon 50 years ago.

Real World “Using Math and New Tech to Study Lunar Rocks” – This video explores techniques used to protect and preserve 50-year-old Moon rock samples and showcases the role mathematics plays in the process.

Ask SME: Senior Sample Processor, Lab Manager – Andrea Mosie shares her passion for her work with moon rocks and describes the changes she’s seen in the Astromaterials Curation Office.

Ask SME: Lunar Sample Curator – Dr. Ryan Zeigler shares his excitement in taking care of NASA’s Moon rocks.
