Lunar Surface Science Mobility Strategy

There are certain regions of the Moon where humans can’t easily go or where the astronauts’ range would be limited. ESSIO has enabled studies of long-traverse rovers and other extended mobility assets that would be enhance science return through higher-speed, hazard-avoiding autonomous mobility over longer durations. Lunar rovers may drive autonomously so they can navigate complete darkness and strongly sunlit traverses without being limited by communication delays.
