Janus
Active Mission
A mission to send a pair of small satellites to examine two separate binary asteroid systems, Janus was supposed to ride along with NASA's Psyche asteroid mission in 2022, but has been paused. When Psyche was delayed to 2023, NASA determined the new launch date meant Janus – named after the two-faced Roman god of beginnings and passages – could not reach either the mission’s original targets, asteroids 1996 FG3 and 1991 VH, or any target appropriate for its science objectives.
