Cassini Significant Event Report

For Week Ending 01/29/99

Spacecraft Status:

The most recent spacecraft status is from the DSN tracking pass on
Wednesday, 01/27, over the Canberra tracking station. The Cassini
spacecraft is in an excellent state of health and is operating nominally. The speed of the spacecraft can be viewed on the "Where is Cassini Now?" web page (http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/operations/present-position.cfm)

Spacecraft Activity Summary:

On Friday, 01/22, SSR Flight Software Partition Maintenance was performed.
Following this activity the C11 sequence deregistered. At that time C12
was loaded.

On Sunday, 01/24, the C12 background sequence successfully began
execution.

On Monday, 01/25, Periodic Instrument Maintenance was performed. Initial
status indicates that the PIM performed as planned and that all
instruments are in good health.

On Tuesday, 01/26, an AACS Parameter Update was performed in support of
TCM-6 (Trajectory Correction Maneuver). This was followed by an SSR
Pointer Reset.

Upcoming events:

Activities scheduled for the week of 01/29-02/04 include uplink of the
TCM-6 mini sequence, SSR Pointer Reset, and Flight Software Partition
Maintenance on 02/02, and TCM-6 execution and data playback followed by a
High Water Mark Clear on 02/04.

Additional information about Cassini-Huygens is online at http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov.

Cassini will begin orbiting Saturn on July 1, 2004, and release its piggybacked Huygens probe about six months later for descent through the thick atmosphere of the moon Titan. Cassini-Huygens is a cooperative mission of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. JPL, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Office of Space Science, Washington, D.C.
