Atmospheric Composition Program Scientist

Dr. Michael J. Kurylo has been serving as a Program Manager / Program Scientist for Atmospheric Composition in the Earth Science Division of NASA's Science Mission Directorate since 2004. Before that he was working at NASA through a U.S. Government Inter-Agency detail working on the Upper Atmosphere Research Program; where he developed, promoted, and implemented an extramural research program in stratospheric and upper tropospheric composition and directed its advanced planning at a national and international level. His Research Interests include Gas Phase Kinetics and Photochemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Stratospheric Ozone Depletion, Climate Change Research. He has won many awards and honors including:

  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Environmental Hero Award
  • U.S. Dept. of Commerce Bronze Medal
  • U.S. Dept. of Commerce Silver Medal
  • NASA Ames Research Center Honor Award
  • NASA Peer Award
  • NASA Cooperative External Achievement Award
  • NASA Acquisition Improvement Award
  • William T. Pecora Award
  • Twice won a United Nations Environment Programme Certificate of Recognition
  • NASA Exceptional Service Medal

and a dozen times was a member of teams that won a NASA group achievement award
