Dr. Henry Stone

Dr. Henry Stone of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is the Project Manager for the Psyche mission. He leads the multi-disciplinary team of spacecraft and instrument engineers, business team members, and technicians from multiple organizations around the country and world responsible for the design, manufacture, build, test, and delivery of the Psyche Spacecraft, its operation during flight, and execution of the overall Psyche Mission.  He began working on Psyche in 2015 as the Project Manager during the Step 2 Proposal Phase.  He has expertise in systems engineering, space hardware development, avionics, robotics, electrical engineering, contract, and line management.

Education

Dr. Stone earned his BS, MS, and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. 

Experience

Dr. Stone began his career at JPL in 1987.  In 1992 he became the Technical Manager of the Mars Pathfinder Rover's Control and Navigation Subsystem and has since held key leadership roles in both development and operations including: Manager of the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Avionics Subsystem, MER Spacecraft/rover Engineering Team Chief, Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) mission Deputy Project Manager, Flight System Manager, and Contract Technical Manager. He also held leadership roles in line management, serving as Manager of the JPL System Engineering Section and later as the Deputy Manager of the JPL Systems and Software Division.
