Amendment 37: Final Text and Due Dates for D.3 APRA and D.7 SAT
ROSES-2021 Amendment 37 releases revised text and NOI due date for D.3 Astrophysics Research and Analysis (APRA)and final text and due dates for D.7 Strategic Astrophysics Technology (SAT).
D.3 APRA solicits basic research proposals for investigations that are relevant to NASA's programs in astronomy and astrophysics and includes research over the entire range of photons, gravitational waves, and particle astrophysics. Proposals relevant to the APRA program are those that address the best possible (i) state-of-the-art detector technology development that is directly applicable to incorporation in future space astrophysics missions; (ii) science and/or technology investigations that can be carried out with instruments flown as suborbital-class payloads on balloon-borne, sounding rocket, CubeSat, or other platforms; or (iii) supporting technology or laboratory research that are directly applicable to space astrophysics missions.
D.7 SAT supports the maturation of key technologies for potential infusion in spaceflight missions to enable implementation of Astrophysics strategic missions. Strongly endorsed by the 2010 Decadal Survey of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the SAT program is a key element of the strategy adopted by APD in implementing these recommendations.
This year, proposals to D.7 SAT must focus exclusively on the highest-priority recommendations by the 2020 Decadal Survey on Astronomy and Astrophysics, which will be issued shortly. Topics focused on technology development relevant to NASA Astrophysics but not pertaining to missions or technologies recommended by the 2020 Decadal Survey may be submitted to D.3 APRA.
This year only, for both programs NOIs are strongly encouraged but not mandatory. For both programs, optional NOIs are requested by November 19, 2021. For both programs proposals are due December 16, 2021, predicated on the release of the 2020 Decadal Survey of Astronomy and Astrophysics at least 30 days prior to this.
On or about September 24, 2021, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement "Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2021" (NNH21ZDA001N) will be posted on the NASA research opportunity homepage at https://solicitation.nasaprs.com/ROSES2021 and will appear on SARA's ROSES blog at: https://science.nasa.gov/researchers/sara/grant-solicitations/roses-2021
Questions concerning D.3 APRA should be directed to Dominic Benford at dominic.j.benford@nasa.gov and questions concerning D.7 SAT should be directed to Mario Perez mario.perez@nasa.gov.
