F.22 Research Initiation Awards Clarification and Documents Posted
The new Research Initiation Awards Program (F.22) solicits proposals from non-R1 institutions to provide support for investigators and their students at institutions underrepresented in the SMD ecosystem. RIA has two principal programmatic objectives:
- Enable investigators at institutions underrepresented in the SMD ecosystem to initiate activities that, over the course of a two-year period, will provide the foundation for a competitive, sustainable, and productive program of research.
- Enable undergraduate students affiliated with the proposing investigator to perform cutting-edge research in SMD-relevant field.
In response to comments and questions from potential proposers, the rules about student compensation in Section 4.2 of F.22 Research Initiation Awards have been made more flexible. New text is in bold. The due date remains unchanged: proposals are due July 18, 2023.
A joint informational webinar about this opportunity and F.23 Bridge Program Seed Funding occurred May 24. Slides from that webinar with a link to a recording (PDF) have been posted under "Other Documents" on the NSPIRES page for this program element. Also, Quick Guide to Demonstrating Relevance to SMD (PDF) has been posted under "Other Documents".
