From the producer, Stephane Calonnec:
“This is a view of crescent Saturn, based on the raw image from Cassini W00087155.jpg on March 12, 2014. JPEG artifacts and optical defaults were partially removed, and Saturn was colorized using standard Saturn colors. I chose not to remove the blurry light from bottom as it is part of the original picture.
“I’ve done it ‘just for fun’ and to test whether I could do a nice picture of a vessel’s photo, not pretending scientific or artistic artwork. I just hope you will like it!”
The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The Cassini orbiter and its two onboard cameras were designed, developed and assembled at JPL. The imaging operations center is based at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colo.
