Mariner 4 image, the first close-up image ever taken of Mars. The area is near the boundary of Elysium Planitia to the west and Arcadia Planitia to the east. The hazy area above the limb may be clouds. This image has been enhanced to bring out some of the details of this haze-like portion of the image, at the expense of resolution of the surface features. For a better view of the surface, see image m04_01d. The resolution of this image is about 5 km and north is up. (Mariner 4, frame 01H)
