Sol 0016: Left Navigation Camera, Cylindrical Perspective

NASA's Mars rover Curiosity took 23 images in Gale Crater using its mast-mounted Left Navigation Camera (Navcam) to create this mosaic. The seam-corrected mosaic provides a 360-degree cylindrical-perspective projection panorama of the Martian surface suitable for stereo viewing, centered at 311 degrees azimuth (measured clockwise from north). This single-eye view must be combined with the partner right image to be viewed in stereo.  Curiosity took the images on August 23, 2012, Sols 16-17 of the Mars Science Laboratory mission at drive 78, site number 3. The local mean solar time for the image exposures was from 2 PM to 4 PM.
