During the Summer of 2021, Science Activation's NASA eClips project team facilitated a program in collaboration with Guana Tolomato Matanzas (GTM) National Estuarine Research Reserve, in which students honed their critical thinking skills and developed technological and science literacy by incorporating the place-based environmental stories unique to the GTM Research Reserve into the production of their very own NASA Spotlite videos – student-produced videos that challenge science misconceptions. These campers were immersed in a real-world, science communication challenge geared toward the general public.
This year, NASA Earth to Sky (ETS) program, a partnership between NASA, the National Parks Service, and the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, asked NASA eClips educators to join their February 23rd webinar, "NASA Spotlites in Environmental Education – Young Learners as Science Communicators", to share about the NASA eClips/GTM NASA Spotlite collaboration and show representatives from science centers, parks, refuges, and other conserved sites the kinds of digital tools they can use in their summer camps and multi-day group engagements. During the webinar, ten attendees received tips and strategies for planning, training staff, and implementing the NASA Spotlite Design Challenge.
