Amendment 51 releases draft 2018 Text for B.10 the Heliophysics Early Career Investigator Program

The Early Career Investigator Program (ECIP) in Heliophysics is designed to support outstanding scientific research and career development of scientists and engineers at the early stage of their professional careers. The program aims to encourage innovative research initiatives and cultivate diverse scientific leadership in Heliophysics. This program is designed to foster the E of the DRIVE (Diversify, Realize, Integrate, Venture, Educate) initiative put forward as a high priority recommendation of the 2013 Solar and Space Physics Decadal Survey, to educate, empower, and inspire the next generation of space researchers.

This is a draft version of the 2018 ECIP program element posted for community comment. Comments must be submitted to e.a.macdonald@nasa.gov by January 19, 2018 to be included in the final version of the text that will appear in ROSES-2018. Individual responses should not be anticipated. Changes to this Program Element or additions to a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page may be made in response to comments, as appropriate. The final text of this program element will appear in ROSES-2018 when it is released on February 14, 2018.

Proposal submission to all calls in Heliophysics are done by a two-step process, in which a Notice of Intent is replaced by a required Step-1 proposal. This particular program employs a "binding" two-step process which permits only proposers "invited" in response to the Step-1 to submit a Step-2 proposal. The due date for Step-1 proposals is tentatively scheduled to be March 23, 2018, and the due date for Step-2 proposals is June 15, 2018.
