Key statistics include: 37,264: Total number of discovered near-Earth asteroids of all sizes. 868: Discovered asteroids larger than 1 kilometer, with an estimated 50 left to be found. 11,168: Discovered asteroids larger than 140 meters, with an estimated 14,000 remaining to be found. 100 tons: Estimated amount of dust and sand-sized particles that bombard Earth daily. Near-Earth asteroid close approaches: 17 passed closer to Earth than the Moon in the last 30 days. 145 passed closer in the last 365 days. 473,000,000: Observations of near-Earth objects submitted to the Minor Planet Center.
