Amid a scattering of popcorn-like clouds, a handful of fires (outlined in red) were burning in the southwestern corner of Australia on February 28, 2006. In recent weeks, a series of lightning-producing storms has passed through the region, sparking fires. This image of the coastline southeast of Cape Leeuwin was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite.
