Namaqualand, South Africa

 

Namaqualand in South Africa is known as the "gem of the Northern Cape." Portions of thisarea were turned into a national park in 1999 to preserve the abundant wildlife andbrilliant wildflowers native to the area.

This image was acquired byLandsat 7's Enhanced Thematic Mapper plus(ETM+) sensor on August 23, 2000. This is a false-color composite image made using shortwaveinfrared, infrared, and green wavelengths. The image has also been sharpened using the sensor'spanchromatic band.
