The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this natural-color image of dust blowing south across southern Colorado on March 11, 2014. A passing cold front produced strong winds that reached at least 80 kilometers (50 miles) per hour, kicking up a wall of dust—a phenomenon meteorologists sometimes call a haboob.
